Remembering 9/11

It's hard to describe the feelings that come back to me every time I see the images or hear the sounds of that horrible day 7 years ago, I can still remember every terrifying minute of that morning. I remember thinking that day that the world would never be the same, and in many ways it never has been. Today, we live everyday differently as a result of those attacks, it affects how we travel, the prices of the things we buy and even how we talk about people who are different from us. In spite of all the tragedy that resulted from that day, today is more about hope than it is about sadness; we have hope for a better world, hope that we can chose to listen to each other instead of fight, hope that we have more in common with our fellow citizens than the ways in which we are different.
I'm glad now that I'm able to look back and still remember how I felt that morning, it stirs my heart and makes me thankful. I'm thankful for each of my students and how much they inspire me everyday that I come to work. I think that is what gives me the most hope of all, the hope that the next generation might be different, better than the one before them.
